The Seattle Animal Shelter offers a broad range of volunteer opportunities. Shelter volunteers help save th elives of thousands of animals each year by assisting in the direct care of animals, fundraising, increasing public awareness and reaching out to the community.

Volunteers must:

  • Be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
  • Be able to commit to eight hours of service per month for 6 months.
  • Be able to commit to scheduled volunteer times.
  • Be able to squat, bend, twist, lift, and stand for long periods while working directly with the animals.
  • Attend required training classes.
  • Have had previous large dog handling experience IF you are applying for a dog handling program (e.g. Dog Walking, Get Fit with Fido, Matchmakers-Dog)

For more information on how to apply to become a volunteer, follow the in instructions in the opportunity section. Applications will be reviewed at the end of the month in which they were submitted.

Please note: While we do our best to have many volunteer openings, some opportunities and/or timeslots are full. Evening and weekend timeslots are very popular.
